we’re a team of ocean enthusiasts, safety-first professionals, and local dive experts
who are committed to giving you the best diving experience in Cozumel.
On an island renown for its diving guides Sergio is often mentioned as the best, and one of the few born into the sport of SCUBA diving. The Sandoval family is foundational and shares with few the distinction of being present at the creation of Cozumel diving. His aim is to give others the pleasure and value of seeing what he has discovered in his lifetime of diving. The sea life,
reefs, and swim-throughs are his home. “Mi casa es su casa” has never been truer as our diversdiscover on their experience with Sergio and his crew on Swordfish.
Paul first arrived in Cozumel in 1975, amazed at what he saw in the clear Caribbean waters, the unimaginable beauty of the coral reefs. He determined then to make Cozumel an important part of his life and in 2006 moved to the island and co-founded Cozumel Scuba Divers with Sergio. To show his commitment to coral reef ecology and to draw the world’s attention to their importance, accomplished a 45-mile swim from Cozumel to Cancun and founded Swim For The Reef, a nonprofit teaching foundation. This successful project was documented and the film has been shown in many places including the world-famous Cannes Film Festival. Paul and everyone at Cozumel Scuba Divers invite everyone interested in scuba diving to become ambassadors for the reefs and join us in Cozumel to experience diving at its best
At 62 years old, Paul Ellis took on an extraordinary challenge—swimming from Cozumel to Cancun
—to raise awareness about the fragile state of our coral reefs.
His inspiring journey is captured in the documentary
Swim for the Reef, a powerful call to action for ocean conservation.
Discover how Paul’s dedication to the ocean is making waves in the fight to protect marine ecosystems.

Open Water Dive Certification is available with prior notification as well as courses beyond Open Water, such as Advanced Open water and Rescue Diving.
